Parkdean Resorts pledges £42M investment in UK Holiday Parks with over 800 new caravans and lodges for 2018

PARKDEAN Resorts has revealed its commitment to continued investment through plans to invest £42M across its parks this year, with a primary focus on new accommodation.

Following a record £50M worth of investment last year, the 2018 roll out takes Parkdean Resorts’ investment total to £130M since 2016. The business now has 72% double glazed and central heated caravans due to an increase of over 1450 in the last three years.

Due to demand and new accommodation, more parks are open for February half term than ever before. A total of 27 parks, eight more than the previous year, are ready to welcome 2018’s first holidaymakers.

The company is spending £13M on 800 new caravans to meet higher demand for holidays and ownership opportunities. In response to customer feedback, these models will include the introduction of more one and four-bedroom caravans – and particularly those with a higher specification. Features include en-suite bathrooms, new and upgraded entertainment units, spacious seating and homely touches to ensure a really enjoyable stay.

Vauxhall, one of the company’s biggest parks, has enjoyed an extensive replacement programme since its acquisition by Parkdean Resorts in 2016. The park will welcome 60 modern double-glazed and centrally-heated models to upgrade the caravan offering on park including the extra wide and extra-long Victory Belmor. With its central lounge layout and bedrooms and bathrooms at both ends, it’s ideal for families or couples sharing.

The brand new, four bedroom Willerby Lymington will be introduced to a selection of parks. With its central lounge layout, a double and twin room at each end and a veranda, it offers plenty of space for families.

New lodges including a range of four-bedroom models are also set to be added to a selection of parks offering wider choice following a £1.3M investment. The 20 new four-bedroom lodges boast features designed around comfort and style, such as patio doors leading out onto verandas, bigger bathrooms and spacious dining areas.

Nodes Point on the Isle of Wight is receiving 11 new lodges in a £0.75M investment – six for holidaymakers and five for ownership opportunities. Meanwhile £0.52M will bring four luxury lodges with hot tubs to the popular Fallbarrow Holiday Park in the Lake District.

A further £3.9M has been allocated to refurbishing existing accommodation to enhance holidaymakers’ experience.

Additionally, upgrades to retail and leisure facilities will be completed for the 2018 season, as well as extensions of touring and camping areas at key parks.

John Waterworth, chief executive at Parkdean Resorts said: “This year our £42M investment plans really show our commitment to continually developing our parks, and creating the best possible holidaymaker and owner experiences.

“In 2018 we have a focus on bringing in new caravans and lodges to follow the growth in consumer demand. We also regularly collect guest feedback, and from this made the decision to introduce more one and four-bedroom models.

“As we look ahead to peak season, work is underway at the majority of our parks to boost their offering, making for an even more enjoyable time whilst staying with us. We hope this is well-received by our customers, and look forward to welcoming them throughout the course of the year.”

Parkdean Resorts marks youngest General Manager as it harnesses graduate talent in the region

THE UK’s largest holiday park operator is futureproofing its workforce and creating the next generation of leaders, by opening up career opportunities for graduates in the North East.

Parkdean Resorts’ Inspiring Our Next (ION) Hospitality Graduate Management Programme is now in its fourth year, and has fast-tracked graduates into management positions across the business, including Cresswell Towers’ new general manager.

At just 24-years-old, ION graduate Anthony Bate from Washington is the company’s youngest GM, having recently taken the helm at the Northumberland holiday park.

After completing a degree in business management Anthony joined the ION Programme in 2015, and during the 18 month course gained experience of working across some of Parkdean Resorts’ UK holiday parks as an aspiring deputy general manager, before permanently taking the role at the end of the programme.

Soon after, Anthony was successful in his application for the position of general manager at Cresswell Towers, seeing him become the youngest of over 70 GMs within the business.

Anthony said: “I developed a passion for the industry whilst on a placement with Parkdean Resorts during my university studies. It was then that I realised that my future was in holiday parks, so I applied for the ION Programme and haven’t looked back. To be the company’s youngest general manager is a proud achievement, and I’m fortunate to have a job that I love close to home.”

The company currently has 11 graduates as part of the programme’s fourth cohort, spending time between head office and the parks, as they work towards operational management roles. Applications for the next intake of aspiring leaders will be open in summer 2018.

Parkdean Resorts HR director Maggie Pavlou added: “We launched ION in 2014 with the aim of developing future leaders to bolster our management division, whilst offering desirable career opportunities in the hospitality industry for graduates, recognising the qualifications they’ve worked so hard to achieve.

“All too often North East graduates seek jobs outside of the region, and the introduction of ION has allowed us to attract and retain talent for professional roles in our central support office as well as positions out on our parks – an exciting prospect for those wishing to return home or relocate. Whilst on the ION programme, graduates are given the chance to travel, and work alongside a dedicated mentor.

“Both Anthony and Sian are prime examples of the development prospects which ION opens up, as two of the many graduates who have gone on to do great things within the business.”

An Update On Our Commitment To Responsible Resourcing

At Parkdean Resorts we recognise our responsibility in ensuring sound social and environmental practices in our own on-park operations and in our supply chain.

This means moving to working with the right suppliers who not only meet our quality standards but also those who share our values and source their products responsibly according to the standards we set, which include upholding human rights, food safety, ethical sourcing, animal welfare and environmental standards.

We have already taken steps to make changes where doing so would have beneficial impact but we also know that there is more we can do and we will continue to make improvements.

    Food sourcing

We work to continually improve our food and beverage offering to our customers. While there are elements of our supply chain that, due to their nature, are fragmented, we take the initiative where we can and respond to issues which arise.

All of our shell eggs are sourced from free-range sources and we now only purchase mayonnaise made with free-range eggs. We are currently working on the status of eggs used more widely within our supply chain with a commitment to only use cage-free / free range eggs by 2023.

We use Red Tractor certified meat for all of the fresh beef burgers and sausages we use. Red Tractor is the UK’s largest farm and food standards scheme, covering the welfare of animals, food safety, traceability and environmental protection.

All fish we use is sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified sustainable fisheries.

We use vegetable oil in all our restaurants and we are actively looking at ways to reduce our use of palm oil while maintaining the freshness and quality of our fish and chips in our outlets.

One of our major coffee suppliers has worked with the Rainforest Alliance since 2008 and today all the coffee beans sourced for their drinks come from Rainforest Alliance certified farms. We are working towards increasing the proportion of Rainforest Alliance coffee we use.

    Soft Drinks

We work with suppliers who are striving to reduce sugar across their range of drinks. The work they are doing allows us to provide our customers with healthier alternatives.

    Ethical Trading Initiative

The Ethical Trading Initiative is a leading alliance of companies, trade unions and non-governmental organisations which promotes respect for workers' rights around the globe.

By the end of 2019 we are targeting to have 75% of our suppliers signed-up to the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code.

THE UK’s largest holiday park operator is set to invest a record £50m on accommodation, retail and leisure facilities across its UK parks in time for the 2017 season.

Parkdean Resorts will be investing £17m into a stunning range of new lodges, caravans and glamping facilities and £4m on refurbishments to existing caravans and lodges. Meanwhile, entertainment and leisure venues, and children’s activity areas will also be refurbished at many of its 73 parks nationwide as part of a significant investment exceeding £5.5m.

Camber Sands on the South East coast will benefit from a £1.8m cash injection bringing brand new lodges for prospective holiday home owners as well as fully refurbishing its Boathouse Restaurant. This includes a new indoor soft play area which will lead out to an al fresco dining terrace, landscaped gardens, plus children’s outdoor experience – complete with a fun splash zone, mini golf, adventure play area and a refurbished sports court.

A £1.6m lakeside lodge development at White Acres, near Newquay in Cornwall will involve the addition of 22 lodges with lake views, including new four bedroom lodges, all available for both holidaymakers and holiday homeowners. Other improvements around the UK include a £1.5m investment in 19 marina retreat lodges at Fallbarrow in the Lake District, where there will be a revamped bar and lounge on park, and £0.5m invested in six lodges at Warmwell in Dorset.

Sandy Bay in the North East is getting a £1.4m makeover which will result in a new development offering even more accommodation for holidaymakers and prospective owners, a fully refurbished Boathouse Restaurant with al fresco dining terraces plus a brand new bar and indoor play area. The amusement arcade is being extended and refurbished and there will be a new takeaway food outlet.

A total of £1m investment at Kessingland Beach in Suffolk coastal town Lowestoft will see The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant extended and refurbished, along with terrace areas for drinking and dining in the sun, and there will be a bigger shop alongside even more accommodation.

Cayton Bay in Yorkshire will see a £0.9m upgrade to extend and refurbish its Boathouse Restaurant with an incorporated soft play area and dining terrace. Holidaymakers will also be able to enjoy a new fish and chip takeaway at the park.

Over £0.8m alone will be put towards new caravans and lodges at Norfolk’s Vauxhall Holiday Park, Parkdean Resort’s most recent acquisition. Concentrating solely on holiday hire, it is the only five star park in Great Yarmouth, comprising 390 caravans and lodges, 48 suites, 5 glamping pods and 180 touring and camping pitches, set within 41 acres of land.

In the Scottish Borders at Berwickshire park Eyemouth, £0.55m will be spent on a full refurbishment of the entertainment complex with a new glazed extension to house the amusement arcade and Boathouse Restaurant with entertainment area.

The ambitious investment will mean that the new facilities will be completed ahead of the 2017 travel season, ensuring holidaymakers and holiday home owners find their time spent on park this year even more enjoyable.

Parkdean Resorts chief executive John Waterworth said: “It is a truly exciting time for Parkdean Resorts as we gear up for the 2017 season where substantial investment will continue and for what we are confident will be our busiest year yet.

“We recently launched a new mobile-friendly website and brochure inspiring staycations and offering short breaks or longer stays at parks the length and breadth of the UK. We are looking forward to introducing these changes which will further enhance our park experience – allowing holidaymakers to create many more amazing memories with family and friends.”
